I am back from my 72-hour post-election recovery period to find that the world has welcomed our new President with cold, hard reality. President-elect Obama received his first presidential-level security briefing yesterday. I can't help but believe, that Obama left that briefing wondering if he needed to call President Bush and say "uhh, sorry George, I didn't realize."
Obama was also welcomed by the Russians by the announcement of new missile deployments in Europe, as well as counter-measures against our missile shield there. Medvedev also cancelled plans to withdraw three intercontinental ballistic missile regiments from western Russia by 2010 (sounds like the world loves our new leader...like a wolf loves a hobbled sheep). Russian president Medvedev gave an 85-minute address, criticizing America policy, and never once mentioning Obama, although this was clearly a show of force against an incoming U.S. President known to be of minimal fortitude for military conflict.
Welcome to the real world Obama, where NBC and CNN can't protect you. Talking your way into office by schmoozing your liberal buddies and snowing part of the electorate was easy. The easy part is over, and it's time to start rethinking some of your campaign "promises", like the ones made below.
